What to Look For in a Lambo Door Kit

There are many lambo door kit manufacturers out there on the web, so which ones are quality and which one lack? One mark of a quality lambo door kit is it's ability to open a full 90 degrees. It generally looks better and it's easier to step in and out of the car. For a non-factory installed vertical door kit to open 90 degrees is a engineering feat, and requires highly skilled manufacturers. So, the closer to 90 degrees a lambo door opens, generally the higher quality it is. However, some lambo door kits purposefully do not open completely vertical. So, another thing to look for is the mounting system used when installing the lambo door. If it's directly bolted on to the car is completely customized to the particular car model, then it is likely better quality than other doors. Also make sure it comes with a proper gas or other hydrolic pump system, so the door opens smoothly and easily.

How are Lambo Door Kits Installed?

Lambo door kits can be installed by a professional or by the consumer. Usually the vertical door kits are simple enough so a person with average to a little above average knowledge of car mechancs can install the kit himself. A somewhat simplified version of a sample installation is as follows:

  1. You usually start by removing the headlight assembly and side fenders. It is sometimes necessary to remove the front bumper to take the headlights out (a 2004 and newer Mazda 3 is an example of this).
  2. Next you remove the factory stock hinges, and replace those hinges with the ones the kit came with and use the supplied bolts to secure it.
  3. You will then install some sort of hydralic cylinders to the door assembly.
  4. Next you will test and check the vertical door swing height and the horizontal swing and use alan screws to adjust it accordingly.
  5. Now you reconnect the door wires, and make sure everything is securely fastened.
  6. If necessary, you may need to do some custom painting on the door to match the color of the rest of the car.
  7. Lastly, reinstall the side fenders, headlight assembly, and bumper (if necessary).

This is a highly simplified version of a normal installation, but if gives you the general idea. As you can see, if you want to try the installation yourself, you should have a fair amount of mechanical skills.

Legality of Lambo Door Kits

One question you may be asking is "are lambo door legal on cars?". The answer is that it varies from state to state. Most of the time lambo door kits are legal. If they aren't, the manufacturer should say something like "We do not promote this kit for use on public roads or highways. These are strictly for show or for private road use." However, most vertical door kits are legal in the U.S. I would ask the company your buying from to make sure however. Also, if they aren't quit street legal, I've found that many law enforcement vehicles don't care as long as it's not posing a safety issue. Much the same as non-factory installed HID xenon headlight kits.

Can Lambo Door Kits be Installed on any Car?

Lambo door kits are often put on the same cars over and over, so most vertical door companies have pre-made kits for the popular car models. Some of the most popular car models for lambo door kit installation include: Acura (including the Integra and RSX), BMW 3 series, many Chevrolet automobiles including the Corvette and Camaro, Ferrari, a variety of Honda cars, and many others. If your car isn't as popular for lambo door installation, you'll be happy to know that most companies do offer custom installation for any car, but it will be a little more expensive than the other kits. Also, some cars are easier than others to install lambo door kits. Most kits require to remove the headlight assembly and side fenders. Some cars are easier to do this than others. Like I mentioned previously, it makes it much more difficult if you have to take off the bumper to remove the headlights, as some cars to require this. But, you can take your vertical door kit to any body mechanic and they should be able to install any lambo door kit for you. For a price of course.

What are Lambo Door Kits?

Lambo door kits (also known as vertical door kits) are doors modeled off the famous Lamborghini. They are doors that perform just like they sound. Instead of opening sideways like a normal car, they open vertically. Quality lambo door kits are expensive, but the enhancement they add to your car makes it worth it for many car aficionados. Most lambo door kits do not replace your entire door. You keep the original door, they just install and replace the bolts and door hinges. Vertical doors work similarily to normal doors, with a minor modification. You open the door just like you normally would, except the door will only open about 12-18 inches. From there the door will not open any futher and you will have to push the door vertically to finish opening your car door. When the door opening is complete, you get that Lamborghini look with the tail end of the door rising above the top of the car.

Lambo Door Pricing

Lambo Door kits can be quite expensive, but they are considered one of the coolest and best upgrades a car afficionado can give his or her automobile. Lambo door kits come in a variety of prices, depending on the quality and credibility of the company. For the some of the best deals, I would go to ebay.com. You may want to be careful with some of the ebay stores though, as they sacrifice quality for price. However, some vendors are able sell quality lambo door kits at a lower price just because they get so much more traffic, therefore increasing sales. Lambo door kits on ebay typically go for around $275 to $550, with some of the better ones topping off at $1200 plus. At a number of online stores, you will find slightly higher prices on their lambo door kits. For example, some stores are sellling their lambo doors and winged doors for $1500- $1700. However, some vendors to sell lambo door kits as low as $500.
